MARKET OVERTON lost to BOURNE by 141 runs

MARKET Overton slumped to a heavy defeat at home to the division’s basement side Bourne on Sunday, losing by 141 runs.

Bourne batted first and the game began well for Marko who took Owen Smith and Ben Stroud, who has recently had some massive innings for Bourne, for one run each.

But Bourne resettled and, inspired by captain Dave Christmas, reached 259 for 7.

Neil Tee-boon was the pick of the Marko bowlers taking three wickets for 38.

Market Overton began well in reply with Kinch (35), Brown (20) and Darren Munton (47) keeping the score rolling along.

But with several first-teamers absent the lower order failed to make any impact against the Bourne bowlers and a string of cheap wickets left Marko reeling and all out on 118.

Division One of the Rutland League is topsy-turvey with Bourne’s position reflecting under-achievement rather than ability.

Market Overton’s Darren Munton said: “Once Owen Smith and Ben Stroud were out we thought would be in with a chance but Dixon and Christmas took the innings on.

“David Christmas has the experience and took the game away from us.

“We had a weaker side with only four regular first team players. Bourne are a good side so it was a big ask for the lads to come in.”
