RECORDS were broken at Oakham's Lime Kilns cricket ground when county cricketers visted last week.
Yorkshire players Jonathan Bairstow and Joe Root set batting records against Leicestershire in a three-day a second Xl championship game between Tuesday to Wednesday.

Leicestershire beat the visitors in a match that saw a total of 1,215 runs and the Yorkshire pair set a record unbeaten stand of 358 in process, with Bairstow’s 202 not out shattering the record innings, set only five days earlier by Oakham teenager Jamie McCormack by two runs.

Oakham club captain Nick Begy said: “This is a huge feather in our cap to hold a county fixture.

“The whole club has worked tirelessly to provide excellent facilites and a great wicket for high scoring cricket which is coming to fruition.

“This is highlighted by all teams going from strength to strength, with more competition than ever seen before and the news that the county will be back next year, shows how the club has moved forward in recent years.”

Chairman Gordon Hubbard was the club host as well as being responsible for the fast outfield, while his wife Rosemary managed the catering and Jim Carpenter had the surrounds looking immaculate.

Leicestershire’s reserves began a second game in Rutland on Tuesday with a game against Lancashire reserves at Uppingham School.
