Bourne Grammar School rugby player Adam Castle has recently represented the Midlands U18 squad, culminating in a final trial game for the England Counties U18 team.

Adam was selected for the Midlands U18s after a successful season playing for the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire U18s and two trials during December and January, where Midlands selectors narrowed down over 60 players to a final squad of 23.

The Midlands warm up game was played at Uppingham School against the Independent Schools England representative team, The Lambs, which the Midlands won 38-7.

Adam was then selected for the final England trial match against the North at Macclesfield last weekend.

Adam once again started on the left wing for the Midlands, eventually winning a very close encounter 21-17.

The England selectors will now deliberate over their final 23 man squad. Adam is still only an U17 player and therefore has a realistic expectation of being picked for the national side.

Adam said: “It’s been a fantastic experience playing at this level with team mates a year older and I don’t expect to be selected this year, but I’ll definitely be aiming for that next year.”

Adam plays his rugby for Bourne Grammar School and Spalding Rugby Club having previously been involved in the Leicester Tigers Development Group.
