Strong start from bowlers
EMPINGHAM racked up another victory with a scintillating performance against Harlaxton at home on Sunday to widen the gap ahead of the promotion chasing pack.
Empingham won the toss and chose to bowl first - a decision that was quickly vindicated when the opposition were reduced to 6-4 after nine overs.
Stu Naylor was in stellar form, bowling impeccable lines with vast amounts of swing to pick up two deserved wickets. At the other end, Dave Mckevitt (2 for 24) followed up his brilliance from the previous week with another spell of pace and bounce, and another two wickets.
Following the early bowling brilliance, Harlaxton rebuilt their innings with the middle order providing a strong fightback. But Dan O’Kane (3 for 43) kept the rate down but uncharacteristically sloppy fielding allowed Harlaxton to make steady progress.
Freddie Turner (2 for 42) picked up a couple of important wickets and Naylor came back on to complete the innings with his third wicket (7.3 overs, 3 for 6) with Harlaxton out for a below par 147.
Empingham lost Mark Coburn for 17 but Graham Cooper and Turner were able to set a solid foundation with a 70 run partnership. When Cooper (25) and Turner (47) fell, Empingham needed 50 runs to win.
Baz Sharp (18no) and Tom Cooper (37no) peppered the boundary with some belligerent hitting and the game was wrapped up in fine style with only 29 overs bowled.
l EMPINGHAM have no fixture this weekend and will switch their attention from pummelling the opposition to the club’s race night.
