Blackstones had to make do with just a single point on Saturday after they drew 2-2 with Potton United, despite going ahead twice at Lincoln Road.
With the confidence of the midweek Lincs Senior Trophy win over Boston Town still fresh in their minds, Stones started brightly and played some nice passing football. Jordan Avis was attacking down the wing nicely with Matt Simpson in close support.
The Potton defence looked jittery but it took 13 minutes before Stones were able to break through. On his 25th appearance for the Stamford club Dan Evans scored his 11th goal of the season, a cracking headed goal from a pin point Scott Ginty corner, which was perfectly placed and left the visiting keeper helpless.
Stones held the lead until just before the interval when the visitors were awarded a free kick that was played to the far post, the ball was nodded back from the by-line for a tap in from six yards out by George Kiely.
After the break Stones once more laid siege to the visitor’s goal but it took an own goal in the 63rd minute from Chris Reeves to re-establish the lead, once more a Ginty cross deep into the penalty area forced the defender to deflect the ball past his keeper whilst under pressure from Addie Staffieri.
A carelessly conceded free kick from 20 yards out once more gave the visitors their chance to draw level, which they took in the 78th minute, scoring through Kenny Smith for a share of the spoils.
However consider Potton started the day in the top three of the UCL Division One it was another decent performance from Blackstones, who lie in 14th in the table.
Stones travel to Woodford on Saturday, who sit one place below them on the league on the same number of points, kick-off 3pm.
