Bourne Town Ladies bounced back after their defeat in the cup last week, to beat Wisbech St Marys on Sunday in the S-Tech Women’s Championship North 4-3.
Kim Fairweather clinched the first goal from a corner. This was followed by a well worked goal between Toni Hamilton, Tracey Duxbury-Mead and then finished by Claire Lawrenson.
Wisbech managed to sneak in a goal before half-time to go in 2-1.Determined not to have a repeat of the previous match, Bourne worked hard and had the majority of the play.
Wisbech were not deterred and equalled the score line after only five minutes in the second half.
Lotti Ayers had a great chance after Kim’s handwork in midfield only for the ball to go over the crossbar.
Lotti and Toni McHamilton then teamed up, with Lotti crossing a shot into the goalmouth from the right which the Wisbech keeper got her hands to but only for the rebound to be converted by Toni who had come off the substitutes’ bench.
She quickly reacted and made sure it went in by drilling the ball straight into the back of the net with full power for her first goal for Bourne.
Wisbech came back again with a chip over Judith Jagger, the Bourne keeper, to level the game at 3-3.
Managers Ian Bartram and Matt Hammond then switched the team formation to play more offensively and it paid off. Bourne had the upper hand in Wisbech’s last third and won a free kick. Another rebound meant that Helen Barker also got her first goal for the team to win the game.
Next round of the league is at Milking Nook on Sunday at 2pm against Tydd St Marys.
