Cottesmore Amateurs ended their long weather-enforced break from football by winning their first game of 2016.

Amateurs had the perfect game to ease themselves back into the action as they travelled to bottom of the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division Desford on Saturday.

Cottesmore have been much improved of late and had too much class for the side holding up the table, putting three past the hosts with no reply.

Sam Wright opened the scoring before Andre Fontoura and John Love joined the party.

The win takes Cottesmore up to 10th in the table.

Despite Cottesmore not playing for nearly a month they started the game brightly with Love and Fontoura going close at Peckleton Lane.

However Desford almost took the lead through a powerful free kick but goalkeeper Gaz Shaw showed why he is one of the best in the league with a strong hand at full stretch to keep the game goalless.

Amateurs opened the scoring in the 25th minute thanks to a quick break. A Desford corner was cleared up field and Jordan Smith and Fontoura worked their way through the midfield to give Wright an easy tap in.

Ten minute before the break Fontoura made it 2-0, finishing a Danny Seals cross.

Despite their lowly position Desford showed plenty of heart early in the second half and once again Shaw did well to keep them out with a fine save one-on-one.

However Love confirmed the result with another easy tap in after the ball fell to him when a shot from Jordan Smith was parried by the home keeper into his path.

Amateurs now start a run of three back-to-back home games starting with the visit of GNG on Saturday, who sit two places higher in the league, but in this form and on their own pitch, Cottesmore will be looking to keep their good start to 2016 going.

Cottesmore Amateurs: Gaz Shaw, Sam Wright, Danny Swinson, Rob Grant, Sean Dennigan, Joe Williams, Luke Smith, Jordan Smith, Danny Seals (Adam Wright), John Love, Andre Fontoura (Craig McJanett). Substitute unused: Nathan Clare.
