Stamford AFC have signed a striker who knows where the back of the net is but has also had his fair share of controversy.

The Daniels have signed Cambridge City striker Andrew Phillips.

Phillips was the top scorer for the Evo-Stik Southern Premier League club last season with 20 goals in all competitions, but has failed to find the same form in the current campaign, dropping down the club’s pecking order and this week he has released.

However the Daniels are in need of goals and were quick to snap him up despite his chequered past.

In October last year Phillips made national headlines when he was shown a red card for head butting his own team mate Josh Beech after a disagreement on the pitch.

The pair had a heated argument after Phillips chose to shot rather than pass during Cambridge’s 2-0 loss to Banbury United.

However Phillips is expected to come straight into the Daniels’ squad for their trip to Rushall Olympic tomorrow.

Stamford AFC are averaging just a goal a game since new manager Andrew Wilson took the reins at the Evo-Stik NPL club, scoring eight in eight, with three of those strikes coming in a 3-3 draw with Sutton Coldfield Town in his second game in charge.

Phillips has previously played for Histon and Bedford Town.
