FOOTBALL: Daniels to play Spalding and Diamonds in the league next season

Stamford AFC will have some tasty fixtures to look forward to in the 2016-17 season despite their relegation from the Northern Premier Division of the Evo Stik League.

As expected the Daniels have been placed in Division One South alongside Lincolnshire rivals Spalding United.

AFC Rushden and Diamonds will also compete at that level next season which guarantees a bumper gate at the Zeeco Stadium.

Bizarrely, for a ‘southern’ league, Northwich Victoria and Witton Albion, two clubs based in Cheshire, are also in Stamford’s division.

Stamford finished fourth from bottom in the Premier Division last season despite a strong finish to the season. Manager Graham Drury remains in charge and has secured most of last year’s squad to try and win promotion straight back into the Premier Division.

This week veteran goalkeeper Paul Bastock signed on for another year at the Zeeco Stadium after impressing during the 2015-16 campaign.
