Stamford AFC manager Graham Drury has moved quickly to address the lack of height in his side by bringing in a 6ft 3in centre back as one of three new signings at the club.

Last season, even after Drury’s return to the club, the Daniels looked susceptible at set-pieces, often out muscled by big visiting sides.

Well the addition of big centre back Kern Miller from Kings Lynn, to play alongside the towering Tom Batchelor, should go some way to addressing that problem.

Miller, 24, has bounced around clubs, making football league appearances for Lincoln City and Accrington Stanley before dropping down to non-league football to play for the likes of Gainsborough Trinity, Worksop Town, Boston United and Grantham Town. Last season he played 36 games for King’s Lynn who play at the same level as Stamford but in the Southern half of the league.

Also coming into the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club, who were saved from relegation after Evo-Stik Southern League Division One, South and West champions Cinderford Town AFC rejected promotion two weeks ago, is a familiar face in Niall Mather, who played for Drury during his second spell leading the club and young goalkeeper Taylor McMillan.

Mather never played for the Daniels during his first spell with the club after picking up a serious knee injury in training. He joins from East Midlands Counties side Holbrook Sports.

At 24 his best football is still to come and his versatility, able to play in most positions on the pitch, make him the perfect squad player.

Taylor, 21, joins from East Midlands Counties Premier Division side Anstey Nomads. He looks likely to start the season as a number two to Paul Bastock, with the intention of learning his trade from the veteran goalkeeper who has played more than a 1,000 games.
