Darren Edey has stepped down as the manager of Ketton, the club he led to promotion and the PDFL Premier.

Edey stepped down as manager on Thursday and was not at the game on Saturday which Ketton won 2-0 away at Thorney.

Goals from Alex Brockbank and Matthew Woodman secured the result.

Edey cited a lack of ambition within the club as his reason for stepping down.

The club sits in 11th position in the league.

Edey said: “I just felt that I had gone as far with the club as I could take them.

“My desire and commitment was probably a lot more than a lot of people at the club. I felt like we had got to the Prem and people thought that was it and stopped wanting to improve.”

Edey’s departure comes less than a week after his worst game as a manager of a football club, when Ketton were beaten 9-0 by Deeping Rangers Reserves.

He said after the game there was a lack of heart and desire by the players.

After the terrible result Edey scheduled training sessions during the week, but the first had to be cancelled because of a lack of numbers and the second saw just three first team players turn up.

That, combined with a lack of progression behind the scenes, was the last straw for the manager.

The team was led on Saturday by Andy Gray and they bounced back with a win.

Will Bird was the inspiration for the first goal, his mazy run ended only by a foul in the box. Woodman did the honours from the spot but the goal came at a cost, as Bird limped off with a knee injury and played no further part.

Ketton got a helping hand when a Thorney player was dismissed for a push.

Thorney continued to be a threat but Brockbank made the game safe with a well-worked chip over the visiting keeper after Alex Collyer had put him through on goal.

Ketton face Pinchbeck United away on Saturday.
