What a difference it makes having your leading striker back to full strength and firing.

Oakham United’s Lewis Leckie ended his own personal barren spell of three games without a goal after coming back from injury by hitting a game winning hat-trick in his side’s 3-1 win away at Thrapston Town on Saturday.

The win ended a run of four loses in a row for Oakham United who had not tasted victory in November until last weekend.

Despite that they remain in seventh in the UCL Division One and are the highest positioned team in the league from the local area.

Leckie gave put Oakham ahead after 17 minutes and then doubled the Rutland club’s lead two minutes into first half added time.

Six minutes after the break Dom Whitehouse gave Thrapston some hope with a goal to make it 2-1 but Leckie’s 16th goal of the season on 70 minutes gave the Tractor Boys victory.

They now face neighbours Cottesmore Amateurs in the quarter-finals of the Leicestershire and Rutland Senior Cup tomorrow (Tuesday) night.

Kick off is 7.30pm at Rogues Park.
