Oakham United are haemorrhaging goals in the UCL Division One right now.
The Tractor Boys lost 5-2 to Irchester United on Saturday, the second match in a row they have conceded five goals having lost 5-1 to top of the league Peterborough Sports.
That’s now 41 goals conceded for the season, the third most in the league.
To be fair to Oakham they are not the only side to struggle at Alfred Street this season as the Romans remain unbeaten on home soil in the league this term.
The Rutland side found themselves 2-0 down at half time. Raph Brown opened the scoring in the 26th minute with an effort from 20 yards and the lead was extended by Dave Miles who pounced on a loose ball ten minutes later.
After the break Nathan Heycock scored Irchester’s third goal from a Miles cross just a minute after the restart.
Seb Archer-Fen pulled a goal back for Oakham from a Sven Hart cross after 67 minutes.
However ten minutes later Hart had the ball in the back of his own net to restore Irchester’s three goal lead.
A minute later Adam Rothery scored a second for Oakham, finishing at the back post from an Archer-Fen delivery for his fifth of the season
Visiting comeback hopes were quashed by Irchester’s fifth goal from Ryan Lovell after 85 minutes.
The loss dropped United down to seventh in the league with Irchester moving above them. A positive for Oakham was striker Lewis Leckie got through 90 minutes on his return from injury and will soon be terrorising defences again.
The club will be hoping that starts on Saturday when Oakham host Olney Town in the League KO Cup, 3pm ko.
