Bourne Town’s winning run in the UCL Division One was ended by promotion candidates Rothwell Corinthians who won 4-0 on Saturday.
The Wakes came into the match on the back of four successive victories in the league but their stingy opponents Rothwell hadn’t conceded a goal in more than 630 minutes before kick-off, make that more than 700 at the final whistle.
With the Wakes missing their top striker Josh Hales, who was on county duty, Corinthians took another step towards a return to the Premier Division with an emphatic win over Bourne who failed to show the form which has seen them move up the table in recent weeks.
Kyle Locklin’s 11th-minute goal was followed by strikes from Ryan Goodband and Dom Page at the end of the opening half.
Goodband struck again five minutes into the second period to complete a tenth successive win.
The loss drops Bourne one place down the standings to 12th but next up are Blackstones at the Abbey Lawn on Bank Holiday Monday, and they haven’t won for 18 league matches now so if there is ever a game to get back on track it’s that one.
