Big win secures third spot

RUTLAND Water Golf Club’s A team sit in third place at the half way point of their season.

Recent results include a thumping 7-1 home win against Western Park and a narrower, 5½-2½ loss at Market Harborough.

At Harborough there were wins for Phil Hibbitt and Nick Vance, a half for Paul Tomson and losses by Marc Smith, Ben Stephens, Robbie Pengelly, Robbie Reynolds and Stan McTaggart.

Against Western Park Marc Smith, Robbie Pengelly, Nick Vance, Paul Tomson, Ben Stephens, Stan McTaggart and Phil Hibbert all won. Robbie Reynolds fell to the team’s sole reverse.

On the same day the seniors played at Thorney Lakes, losing 4-2.

Winning pairs were Mike Rimmer and Tony Purkis, and Barry Read and Mike Davis. The pairs of Bob Sachs and Jim Graham, David Lloyd Williams and Tim Beck, John Hill and Tony Wright, and Mike Lee and Bob Kerr were all defeated.
