It was an all-round outstanding result for students from Annabel Murcotts Schools of Tae Kwon Do at the Midlands Tae Kwon Do Championships, held at Kettering leisure village.

They picked up 27 medals, eight of which were gold, and two of them held on to their title from last year.

Junior Midlands Sparring Champion Kieran Fowler from Billingborough and Ladies Sparring Champion Christina Rogers from Langtoft, both retained their Midlands Championship Title.

Both came up against some tough determined fighters in the first rounds but with true grit and determination they gave it their all,
Christina also went on to claim double victory as she also won a gold in the Team Sparring event.

Stamford’s Juniors Lilly-Marie Roberton and Chloe Bull both took the Gold in Team Sparring.

Mother and daughter from Bourne Kirsty Roche took the gold in Ladies Blue Belt Team Sparring and daughter Caitlin took the gold in Blue Belt Junior team Sparring, then the youngest member of the Roche family, Bronwyn, took bronze in both individual and team Blue Belt Junior Sparring, so an all round good day for the Roche family, however they wasn’t finished there as Kirsty and Caitlin also took silver medals in Individual Sparring.

More Silver Medals went to Harry Daniels in boys Black Belt Middleweight sparring and his sister Poppy who took Silver in Junior Black Belt Girls Patterns.

Newcomer to Boys Junior Sparring was David Abrantes from Werrington who won Silver in both individual and team sparring.

Coach Annabel Murcott 7th Dan World Master said;

“It was an awesome day for the families, once again showing how as a family you can train together, get fit together and win medals together.

“The atmosphere in the arena was on a high, as everyone is getting ready for the largest martial arts world championships ever held in the UK, with over 3,500 competitors from all over the world coming together for a two day event to be held at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham in July.

“Many of the Students have got their eyes set on a medal at this event and are flat out in training.

“ I feel very confident we should see some new world champions in the club.

“This is why I am so proud to be part of a sport and a great organisation, that offers such chances to individuals.”
