Uppingham Town secured a resounding eight wicket victory over Lutterworth 2nds on Saturday to keep the heat on the top two of the Leicestershire League Division Two.

The Rutland side remain more than 40 points behind the two sides in promotion spots but refuse to drop off from the chase to go up, despite only having come up last season.

Uppingham put the visitors in to bat and began their work of taking the Lutterworth wickets.

Danny Dumford took the first wicket off the afternoon thanks to a catch from Tom Scott, seeing opener Aaron Barber gone for 16, however Joe Hack proved to be much more stubborn and stuck around to top score in the match with 53 runs.

He was eventually out to a Jamie Dumford catch from the bowling of Alex Ashwin who went on to finish with 3-35.

The rest of the side struggled for runs and Don Butchart (1-17) and Mark Cox (1-31) took a wicket each but it was Scott Green who ensured Town’s batsmen had a chance to win the match after tea.

Green had a great day with the ball, taking 4-29, as he whipped through the tail to have the visitors all out for 179.

Uppingham lost just two wicket as they chased the small target with each of the four batsmen used making similar scores. Jamie Dumford opened with a knock of 34 before getting caught lbw by Charlie Hack and Martin Bennett was caught for 43 by Joe Hack from the bowling of Brijesh Patel. Mark Cox (45 not out) and Jack Salk (40) took Town over the line in the 39th over with Salt’s quick score helping to secure victory.

Uppingham Town 2nds lost to Ho3ughton & Thurnby 3rds by 4 wickets on Saturday.
