Ex-world champion to visit club

FORMER world champion Tony Allcock will visit Market Overton Bowls Club as special guest in September.

In an effort to encourage new players to the game and improve their experienced players, Marko are hosting a coaching day on September 1 and Mr Allcock, who is now CEO of Bowls England, will spend the day at the club.

He will give a lecture, play on the green, and give advice on a number of aspects during play but numbers are limited and members of other clubs should let the Marko club know quickly if they would like to join the day’s events.

l MARKO travelled to Colsterworth on Saturday playing four rinks of triples.

Despite recent showers, the afternoon turned out to be bright though rather windy and some players struggled with the green, which needed some weight to get the length right. Nevertheless Marko put on a good show, winning 71-49.

Gerry Barker captained in place of Tony Collison.

Results (Market Overton names only): Chris Rowntree, Gerry Barker and Betty Bell won 15-10; Jacquie Cranwell-Ward, Frank Thibault and Malc Croson vlost 10-16; Annette Oliver, John Cranwell-Ward and Syd Forbes won 24-12; Frank Hayes, Clarence Bell and Jeannie Hutton won 22-11.

Club spokesman Annette Oliver said: “It was particularly good to see several younger players on the green which bodes well for the sport.”
