The bodybuilding owner of a Stamford gym has tasted success in his first Over-50s contest.
Nick Swann, owner of Rhino’s Gym in Stamford, took to the bodybuilding stage last week for the first time in that age category in the Mr Apollo competition in Kettering run by the sport’s legendary Vince D’allesandro.
And, exceeding all his expectations, Swann won his category to become Apollo Over 50s Champion.
The victory also earned him an invite to the Nabba Novice Britain finals.
Swann said: “It was simply one awesome experience that will live with me forever, and after 16 weeks of hard preparation, I have a mutual respect for anyone who steps on stage.
“The standard of the athletes on stage was superb and the atmosphere at the show was simply incredible, testament to Vince’s stature and popularity within the bodybuilding community, a true legend and ambassador of the sport.”
Swann also thanked a contingent of supporters who travelled to cheer him on.
He said: “I have to give a massive shout out to all Rhino’s members who came along to support me.”
“Standing in the wings, being introduced very nicely by Vince for the Rhino’s crowd to simply bring the house down when I walked on again is something I will remember forever.
“Stepping on stage takes some strength but hearing the Rhino’s roar spurred me on like nothing else, totally blown away.”
He added a special thank you to British and World champion Brandon Marjoram, who coached him and helped him prepare for the competition.
“All of this has inspired me to carry on and do more shows and competitions, you really are never to old to follow your dreams.”
