Going nuts to learn a technology lesson

Children at Cottesmore Primary School have been using an old favourite engineering toy as part of their design technology lessons.
Four classes were set the task of building and constructing vehicles and cranes out of Meccano, a traditional construction toy using nuts and bolts and lengths of metal.
Year five teacher Helen Swift said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed it and we encouraged them to use the old fashined construction system.
"Some of them had used Meccano before and some hadn't so the nuts and bolts were fiddly but they got the hang of it.
"We will definitely use it again."
It was the first time the school had worked with the Meccano workshop which was run by Wendy Miller of the Meccano Society.
It was organised as part of the school's design technology curriculum which has also seen the children learning paper mechanics, cooking, furniture design, model building and making picture frames.
