The parish council meeting was held on Monday May 18.
Councillors Mark Bush, Robert Hayes and Suzanne Ryder, along with the clerk Derek Patience, were present. The chairman of the parish council, Michael Markey was unable to be present but had ea
rlier indicated his wish to stand down. The council accepted his resignation and expressed its warm thanks to him for his nine years' service as chairman. Mark Bush was then elected chairman of the parish council.
The parish council agreed to relocate the present interactive speed sign by The Plough and replace it with one that shows the vehicle's speed. The work will be carried out by Eon. The council also agreed to write a letter of support to the planning department regarding the
application for a certificate for the whole of the field that comprises Toll Bar caravan site.
This meeting was followed by the annual parish meeting. Five members of the public attended along with PC Chris Millward, from Leicestershire Police. The minutes of the last meeting in May 2008 were agreed and the chairman delivered the annual report.
PC Millward then delivered his report in which he said that levels of crime in Great Casterton were low with no drug offences and little violent crime. There had however been five burglaries.
He then reported that an additional policeman would be available for the area that comprised 27 villages from June 1.
Leicestershire Police had a target time for 999 calls of 12 minutes and 60 minutes for 22222 calls. Mark Bush emphasised the need for a greater police presence in the village, particularly at school opening and departure times.
Summer FeteThe Great Casterton Church and Primary School Summer Fete will be held in the gardens of the Old Rectory, Old Great North Road, on Saturday June 6, from 2 to 4pm.
There will be numerous stalls, a raffle and teas. All are welcome.
