Village hall classes
New Age Kurling is coming to Harringworth on Tuesday's from September 8 at 10.30am to 12pm.

New Age 'Kurling' is a form of the game of curling, but instead of playing on ice it is played on any smooth flooring, such as a village hall. The game is
played with rubber kurling stones and pushers. The stones have ball bearings on the bottom to allow the stones to move along the ground aiming at a target, as in the traditional game.

The sport is now played in 47 countries around the world and is now coming to Harringworth.

To book your place call Sarah Chambers on 01572 747315, there will be no charge but donations towards running costs would be welcome each week.

Also available Pilates on Monday's from 11.30am to 12.30pm and Yoga on Thursday's from 10 to 11.30am.

Hall seating

The new seating will be delivered to the village hall on Thursday April 23 and as a result there will be 29 surplus plastic seats available to anyone who would like them, and can collect them from the hall. There will be no charge for the seating, but the Trustees would welcome a contribution to hall funds.

If you are interested please contact either Sarah Chambers 01572 747315 or Roy Kedge 01572 747431.

Harringworth viaduct

The longest masonry viaduct spanning a valley in the United Kingdom is again proving of interest for visitors and locals in the county.

Harringworth viaduct, also known as Seaton or Welland viaduct, is currently having further work carried out to replace weathered brick and stonework on the 82 arch structure that spans the Welland valley, for approximately three quarters of a mile. Scaffolding is clearly visible as contractors carry out their work. The viaduct opened in 1878 and although regular passenger services ended in the mid sixties it has remained an important freight route and is often used by diverted passenger trains.

From Monday April 27 a new direct passenger service from Melton Mowbray and Oakham to the capital via the viaduct and Corby's new railway station, will begin, 43 years after being axed.

On Bank Holiday Monday August 31 a heritage steam and diesel rail journey will go over the viaduct which is already attracting considerable interest.

An information sheet has been produced relating to the heritage rail journey by the Friends of Harringworth Viaduct. For a copy send a stamped addressed envelope to Friends of Harringworth Viaduct c/o David Fursdon, 9 Southfield Road, Gretton Northants NN17 3BX.
