ESSENDINE residents had plenty to celebrate when a splendid new village hall extension was opened at the weekend.
There are new toilets with disabled facilities, a new kitchen, extra cupboards and a larger hall.

About 80 local residents and businesses, many of whom put in back-breaking work to make the project a reality, were there for the unveiling of a plaque on Saturday afternoon and to enjoy a barbecue.

Plans for the extension were revealed in September 2006 and there have been various fundraising events including car boots sales and fetes to pay for the work, which cost between £25,000 to £30,000.

Sub postmistress Adele Stainsby organised the project. Her husband Joe, 51 who is chair of the village hall committee said: "Adele project managed it but all the committee have been involved. They have all been out in sunshine and rain amd all got themselves dirty in aid of the project.

"The new extension is brilliant. It is an asset the village can be proud of. Like all these things it needs to be looked after, so if anyone feels like joining the committee they are welcome."

Anyone interested in joining the committee can contact Mr Stainsby on 01780 751711.
