A Rutland primary school has been praised for its outstanding curriculum following an inspectors' report.
St John Primary School in North Luffenham has welcomed a new head teacher and several new staff since the previous Ofsted report in 2004.

The report said: "The rich, exciting and stimulating curriculum makes an outstanding contribution to pupils' personal development. For a small school the range of clubs and activities is outstanding, firing pupils' imaginations and helping to secure a climate where enjoyment and achievement at school are highly valued."

St Mary and St John has 159 pupils and each student is encouraged to take part in activities including sports, homework clubs, art and crafts, and gardening.

Head teacher Sam Morton said: "I'm thrilled with the report. The journey over the last few years has been a challenge, but the staff and team are now very secure and the overall ethos and love in the school has never changed.

"The inspectors were particularly impressed with our Muddie Buddies. The young gardeners had grown the potatoes which were used in a potato salad on the day of the inspection."

The inspectors urged the school to improve writing skills in year two and to collect more information on how students are doing at foundation stage.
