St Mary's Church, South luffenham, will be reviving the tradition of the feast week this year.
It is some considerable time, certainly over 50 years, since this has been celebrated.

There is a wonderful diary of events lined up, appealing to all age groups and tastes.

An art display featuring the work of well renowned local artist Pete
r Barker, music from the internationally acclaimed Mellstock Band, hog roast, walking treasure hunt and sports matches.

In order to make all this happen practical help is needed.

Volunteers are required to help with refreshments, stewards, and 'macho' types to move furniture and staging.

If you can help in any way please contact Chris Payne on 722122 or email headstarters@aol.com, stating which area you would like to be involved in.

Charity Lunch

The next Luffenham lunch will be from midday until 2pm on Friday June 27.

Come along and enjoy a choice of home-cooked lunches, most of the ingredients sourced locally and all very reasonably priced.

This month's charity is The British Beekeepers Association to help fund research on collapsed hives now spreading across the UK.

Dishes will be home-made as always with an emphasis on honey! So please join us for an enjoyable lunch and raise vital funds at the same time.

Newspaper Delivery

The Mercury Newsagent in Uppingham has started a newspaper delivery to the village.

If you are interested in having your newspaper delivered, please contact (01572) 821046

Archaeology Group

The next meeting of the archaeology group will be on Thursday June 12 in the village hall at 7.30pm.

There has been excellent attendance and discussions at the group. Topics covered have been both local and national, ranging from 18th century estates and gardens to Iron Age chariot burials.

There has been lots of local discussion including the village trail and hempyards, a review of local items from the Rutland and Stamford Mercury over the last 200 years and informal chat about the village in the past. Local projects such as fieldwalking are planned for later in the year.

School Fete

St Mary & St John Primary School, North Luffenham are hosting their annual summer fete on Saturday June 21 from 2 to 4pm.

A highlight will be a re-enactment by the Sealed Knot civil war society.

Visitors will be able to see the camp on the school field and prepare for musket fire only yards from the site of real life skirmishes four centuries ago.

There will also be a host of traditional stalls, including clothes, jewellery, bouncy castle, coconut shy, beat the goalie, beer tent and barbeque, all culminating in a huge water fight!

Garden Club
