Lots of people visited the art and craft exhibition in the church at Whissendine on Bank Holiday Monday and many of them clambered up the steps to view the village from the top of the tower.
There were many stalls for them to purchase from and to admire the artistry of lace work, weaving, spinning, face-painting, as well as taking advantage of the refreshments on offer.

There was also a bric-a-brac stall in the Riley's driveway opposite.

Up for the Cup

Several of the Whissendine WI members played Petanque at the Three Horseshoes pub on Thursday. Some of the husbands joined them for encouragement and to have the excellent food laid on by Jan and Mark.

Ken Young and Bridgette Tan were on hand to teach the novices the rules of the game and to take the part of absentees. The winning team of Jean Duquemin, Mavis Lucas and Moira Wilson included Ken and they were presented with the Mabel Bord cup by WI President, Ann Edmunds.

Saint Andrew's Church

The marriage of Sarah Sampson and Richard Gibling took place on Saturday. The wedding flowers had been arranged by the groom's mother and the church team of arrangers. The couple have a house in Harborough Close.

On Sunday there was a double Baptism service when cousins, seven months old Olivia Jackson and nine months old Lewis Clarke were christened. The Clarke family live in Foxhill while the Jackson's come from Radcliffe-on-Trent. Today Parson's Pints may be taken at Teigh from 8.30pm.

Holy Terror's meet at 2pm to hear a third story about Moses. This one is entitled 'Boils and bugs'.

There is no service at the parish church on Sunday. Alternatives are Communion at 8am and 10.30am (Choral) in All Saints Oakham or 6pm at Ashwell.

Forthcoming Events

September 3 – Happy Circle meal at 1.15pm with Jill Collinge speaking about pub signs.

September 4 – prayer meeting at 13 Harborough Close at 11am.

September 7 – Holy Communion at St Andrew's at 11am. The Methodist Circuit service is at 4pm at Oakham.
