The village of Ketton will be celebrating the ancient custom of wassailing on Saturday in the Old Orchard in Hall Close, starting at 4pm.
Everyone is welcome to go along and enjoy the fun. Make sure you take your pots and pans, or anything that will make a noise to help scare away the ‘evil spirits’ - ensuring a successful apple harvest this coming Autumn.
Ketton Community Choir will be singing traditional wassailing songs at the event, along with a display from the Rutland Morris Men.
Following the event, there will be a welcome at the Northwick Arms from 5pm, where mulled ‘wassailing’ wine will be served, along with free hot dogs.
This is a village event for all ages, so do come along and enjoy this ancient British custom. As it’s winter don’t forget to wrap up warm and take a torch.
Organisers promise an enjoyable and entertaining experience.
