Oakham mayor Alf Dewis hands over £100 book token to Brooke Hill Academy.
The town council invited all five primary schools in Oakham to design a Christmas tree based on the theme of recycling. The trees were then displayed at the council’s stall during the late night shopping event and put to an anonymous public vote.
Brooke Hill’s tree, which was made from milk bottles, was the clear winner and pupils were delighted top receive a £100 book token.
The other four schools will receive a £25 book token courtesy of the competition sponsor Rutland Plastics.
The winning tree will be displayed in the foyer of Victoria Hall during the festive season.
Town councillor Jasmine Hopkins, who coordinated the competition, said the feedback from pupils was fantastic.
The council is hoping to run the competition again next year.
