The Early Years pupils at English Martyrs Catholic Voluntary Academy had a real treat this week with a visit to the Wildwood Restaurant in Oakham.
It was all part of the schools Maths Week running across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Reception Class and Year 1 visited the restaurant and became chefs for the day. They first had to decorate their chefs hat and then learn about the ingredients and quantities to make the perfect pizza. The pupils had been learning about weighing ingredients back at school and were able to put this to practice with the help of the fantastic Wildwood staff. All the pizzas were then cooked by the Wildwood staff and boxed up for the pupils to take home.
Ali Chambers, the school’s assistant headteacher, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to use the skills they had learnt within the classroom for a real project.
“I can’t thank enough the Wildwood staff who were so patient with our pupils and so generous to allow us to have this opportunity. The children all had such a wonderful time and have gained so much from this experience.”
