Staff from an Oakham-based educational organisation put themselves to the test with a day of physical challenges to raise money for a children’s charity.

Staff members from EducationCity aim to raise over £900 for Make-A-Wish, a charity that helps grant wishes for children with critical illnesses.

The day, which was a focal event on the company’s fundraising calendar, featured two events. The first was a 5k or 10k inflatable obstacle run at Leicester Racecourse and the second, a sponsored cycle around Rutland Water.

Over 20 people from across the business took part.

Many were challenged by the distances involved, while others faced their fear of heights as they tackled sheer drops, including the aptly named obstacles called the Leap of Faith and The Plummet.

All the money raised from the day’s activities will go directly to the charity and £456 has already been pledged to £900 target.

Shaun Campbell, regional fundraising manager from Make-A-Wish said: “This is a significant amount of money that EducationCity has raised on our behalf and we are so grateful to them for their ongoing support.

“We’ve several wishes in the Leicestershire area at present including one young girl who wants to meet her favourite TV star, Mr Tumble, otherwise known as Justin Fletcher.

“The sum EducationCity has raised will go a long way to helping us grant this wish.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people involved in supporting us and wish them all the best with their events.”

Richard Whalley, MD of EducationCity, said: “I’m really proud of the effort the teams have put in, and so delighted with the result.

“As part of our day-to-day work, we are privileged to be able to support children within the school environment.

“Extending that support to give families experiencing difficult times some very special memories is something very special to us.”
