Storm-force winds on Sunday night resulted in the top of a 92 metre-high chimney stack at Hanson Cement in Ketton being blown down.
The 27 metre steel section, which weighs around 30 tonnes, dropped onto a platform just above ground level causing considerable damage.
A spokesman for the factory added: “No-one was in the vicinity at the time and there were no injuries. The kiln was immediately shut down and will remain off while the damage is assessed and repair works are carried out.”
