Fire crews had to free an elderly man from his car after he crashed into a ditch near Duddington.

The crash happened near the A47/A43 roundabout at about 10am yesterday (Sunday, January 10). The car rolled upside down and the man was trapped inside.

Fire crews had to move tree trunks and branches to reach the car before they were able to free him.

An air ambulance was called but it is not thought the man’s injuries were serious.

A Magpas Air Ambulance spokesman confirmed a helimedic crew had landed in the Stamford area at the time of the accident.

They said: “The Magpas team worked alongside Fire and Rescue Services and East Midlands Ambulance Service Paramedic Crews to safely remove the man from the car. The Magpas doctor and paramedic assessed the patient who had fortunately suffered only minor injuries. The man was then taken, in a stable condition, to Peterborough City Hospital by an East Midlands Ambulance Service Paramedic Crew.”

The road was closed until about 12.30pm.
