Oakham United were crowned kings of the PDFL Premier Division today (Saturday) with a commanding 6-0 victory over Deeping Rangers Reserves.
It was a nervy start to the game from United, which saw Oakham squander five great goal-scoring opportunities against a Deeping side which had been thrown together at the last minute after the club’s first team promoted four players from the Reserves.
However Ben Easson, playing wide of the right rather than at striker, was causing problems from the first whistle and he scored the opening goal of the game to calm the hosts at their Barleythorpe Road home.
Then the goals began to flow. Substitute Lewis Leckie finished it off with a pair of goals to give Oakham the title with a game to spare.
