Empingham ease home to move into second spot

Newly-promoted Empingham have stormed up to second place in the Grantham and Melton Association Premier Division table.

After losing their opening two top flight matches, Empingham were awarded 20 points last weekend when Sileby Town were unable to fulfil their fixture.

And they followed that up on Sunday with a six-wicket home success over Egerton Park who were dismissed for 125.

Stewart Naylor and Rob McKevitt both claimed three wicket hauls for the Rutlanders while Ollie Pickwell pocketed 2-6 from a two over stint.

Henry Newton (24) was the pick of the Egerton batting while last man Hedley Lovegrove smashed 22 to the visitors to their final tally.

Empingham lost a couple of wickets in their reply as Rakesh Seecharan returned 3-18 from eight overs.

But, once Tom Cooper (44no) and Baz Sharp (35no) joined forces at the crease, they eased Empingham home to victory inside 24 overs.

Market Overton are still seeking their first Division Two triumph of the season after losing a tight tussle with Welby Cavaliers by two wickets.

Mark Hudson's 53, which included seven fours, had helped Marko to make 110 before they were all dismissed.

Andrew Spencer took 3-20 for Welby while Peter Spencer, Aaron Machin and Mark Bellaby all took two wickets apiece.

Machin (26) and an unbeaten 38 from Andrew Spencer then formed the spine of Welby's victory charge.

George Knight took two top order wickets to return 2-15 from eight overs while Steve Hamiton struck three times for 3-20 from seven overs as Welby wobbled late on in their reply.

However, Peter Spencer (14no) steadied the ship to see them home for the loss of eight wickets.
