In their first fixture of the season Bourne Men’s Doubles Second team were entertained by Boston Fifths in the Slazenger Lincolnshire Doubles League 3B.
The best of nine rubber tie was even at 3-3 going into the final round. Iain Ross and Tim Bradley, having won their first two rubbers 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1 6-0, took the first set 6-4 against the Boston first pairing, but were held back in the second set, losing 3-6, which led to a championship tie-break decider.
After a terrific tussle, Boston eventually came out on top 16-14, and although Keith Wallace and Alex Rose won their final rubber 7-6, 6-3 after a first set tie-break, Tom Cooke and Josh James could not overcome the Boston second pairing, losing 2-6, 4-6, resulting in a win for Boston by 5 rubbers to 4.
Focus of attention moves to The Abbey Lawn on Saturday as Bourne Under 14s host Deeping Under 14s in what is expected to be a keenly fought local derby contest in the Lincolnshire AEGON Championship. The match is expected to take place on the grass courts and will start at 1.15pm.
