It’s two narrow defeats out of two for Cambs in the Minor Counties Championship as Bucks left Wisbech CC with a three-wicket win yesterday (June 23).
Cambs lost this latest match despite scoring over 400 in their first innings. They fared less well second time around being dismissed for 161 to leave Bucks a victory target of 207 which they duly accomplished.
Defeat was tough on Peterborough Town’s Asim Butt who added 61 to his first innings 123. Captain Paul McMahon, another Town player, finished unbeaten on 49, but the only other Cambs player to reach double figures was Nassington’s Dan Robinson who made 18.
Sam Rippington of Wisbech claimed 3-87 in Bucks’ second innings to make it seven wickets for the match. McMahon and Town team-mate Joe Dawborn each picked up two wickets.
Cambs, who have only Northumberland below them in the Eastern Division, host Suffolk at March Town CC in their next Championship fixture starting on July 5.
Before then Cambs tackle Beds in a Twenty/20 play-off at Cople CC on Sunday (June 28). The winners play in Finals Day at Banbury CC next month.
