Seasoned Oakham cricketer David Ramshaw has put an underwhelming couple of summers with the bat behind him to emerge instead as Oakham CC’s leading wicket-taker so far this campaign.
Handed the ball five times for Oakham 2nd XI, he has garnered 16 wickets in barely 35 overs, including successive five-wicket hauls followed by a ‘four-for’, all at an average of only 8.4 runs.
His latest contribution – a solitary wicket in Oakham’s crushing home win over L&R Division Five East leaders YMA on Saturday – looks paltry on the face of it, but came off only three overs without a single run being taken from him.
Ramshaw’s intelligent seam bowling has helped Oakham to fourth in the table as they press for back-to-back promotions under the captaincy of Graham Cooper.
There are even signs that his self-rediscovery as a bowling force might be rubbing off on his batting: on a call-up to the 1st XI, David played a vital late cameo in his team’s thrilling last-ball tie with Kirby Muxloe in Division Two.
