The nation is getting ready to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday on Saturday with a number of events taking place up and down the country.

In Rutland, Stamford and Bourne there are a number of royal celebrations taking place today and across the weekend.

The annual Rose Fair will be held today (Friday) at Gretton Primary School from 2pm. There will be stalls and competitions for all to enjoy. On Saturday you can also enjoy a royal cream tea at Lydia’s Coffee Shop and Gretton Baptist Church, both located in the High Street.

In Great Casterton, the village is hosting a garden party on Saturday in the grounds of the church from 2pm. There will be live jazz, afternoon teas, displays and competitions.

Stamford Library will be hosting a special ‘royal- themed’ Saturday Storytime for little ones, including the fun activity of crown colouring.

Morrisons in Stamford will also be celebrating the occasion with a royal celebration on Saturday to help raise funds for Sue Ryder. From 11am to 4pm there will be a tombola, face painting and live music from Simon Lee.

On the Sunday, Rippingale will host its very own street party to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. Tables will be set in the High Street and there will be plenty of children’s entertainment, live music, a church service, a new Rose Queen elected and a special flypast by two Spitfires.

Oakham Town Council invites you to join them for a fun packed afternoon in Cutts Close, Oakham on Sunday to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday. The renowned Wrinkle Rock will be performing, along with face painting, fun fair, bouncy castle and much more. The event runs from 1pm to 6pm.

Rounding off the celebrations will be the Collyweston Village Fete, Flower Festival and Queen’s Birthday celebrations taking place from midday on Sunday in The Hermitage garden on High Street. Enjoy a traditional garden fete with barbecue, bar, teas, Great Collyweston Bake Off, fancy dress, children’s painting competition, tombolas, raffles and games.
