Get front row seats for the new season of Met Opera being screened live at Stamford Arts Centre.
II Trovatore (Verdi) will be the first Met Opera screening on show at the Arts Centre tomorrow evening at 5.55pm.
Soprano Anna Netrebko’s dramatic and vocal skills are on full display in her new role at the Met - Leonora, the Verdi heroine who sacrifices her own life for the love of the gypsy troubadour. Tenor Yonghoon Lee sings the ill-fated Manrico, baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky is his rival, and mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick is the mysterious gypsy with the troubled past. Angela Meade sings Leonora in later performances. Marco Armiliato conducts Sir David McVicar’s Goya-inspired production.
The next screening will be Otello (Verdi) on Saturday, October 17, at 5.55pm.
A new staging of Verdi’s masterpiece Otello, conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin and directed by Bartlett Sher, opens the Met season. Aleksandrs Antonenko sings his first Met performances of the tormented Moor of Venice, with Sonya Yoncheva in her role debut as his wife, Desdemona and Zeljko Lucic as Otello’s sinister rival, Iago. The staging, also featuring Dimitri Pittas as Cassio and Gunther Groissbock as Lodovico, also marks the Met debut of set designer Es Devlin.
